Course Introduction

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma for Early Years Practitioners is designed for learners who are looking to work with children between birth and five years, and gain knowledge of working with children up to seven years. This qualification meets the Department for Education (DfE) Level 2 criteria that set out the knowledge, understanding and skills that a practitioner must demonstrate to achieve an Early Years Practitioner status and be counted in the ratios.

Units for this course include:
  • Unit 1: Legislation, Policy and Procedures for Working in Early Years Settings 
  • Unit 2: Child Development from Birth up to Seven Years 
  • Unit 3: Contribute to the Health and Safety of Babies and Young Children 
  • Unit 4: Safeguarding the Welfare of Babies and Young Children 
  • Unit 5: Supporting Babies and Young Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities 
  • Unit 6: Supporting Children’s Communication, Literacy and Language Development 
  • Unit 7: Understand Partnership Working for the Benefit of Babies and Young Children 
  • Unit 8: Promote the Health and Wellbeing of Babies and Young Children in Early Years Settings 
  • Unit 9: Supporting Children’s Learning through Play 
  • Unit 10: Contribute to Observation, Assessment and Planning to Support Children’s Development 
  • Unit 11: Introduction to Personal Development for Early Years Practitioners
  • Five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English and maths.
  • Internally marked assessments
  • Direct observation of the learner’s performance by their assessor
  • Outcomes from oral or written questioning
  • Products of the learner’s work 
  • Personal statements and/or reflective accounts 
  • Professional discussion 
  • Expert witness testimony 
Successful completion of this course would allow you to progress to the T Level in Early Years. 

English and maths at grade 4 are mandatory conditions of progression.
